The 1.2/1.5/1.8/2.4 Meter Vehicle Mounted Driveaway SNG (Satellite News Gathering) Antenna is a versatile, mobile satellite communication solution designed for on-the-go broadcasting and data transmission. It offers rapid deployment and high-reliability connectivity for media, emergency response, and remote communication needs across various terrains.

Dolph Microwave DH vehicle-mounted driveaway SNG antenna systems combine 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 or 2.4 meter carbon-fiber reflectors with motorized azimuth, elevation and polarization control for roof-mounted auto-deploy VSAT operation. Published Ku-band RF data is provided for all four sizes. Feed availability is model-specific: the 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 meter sheets list Ku/Ka feed systems, while the 2.4 meter sheet lists L, C, X, Low Ku and Ka options.

Vehicle-Mounted Satellite Antenna Systems for Field Deployment

The DH range is built around carbon-fiber reflector construction, three motorized pointing axes and controller-assisted acquisition. The four aperture sizes share the same deployment concept but differ in RF performance, movement range, packaging, weight and environmental ratings.

Published mid-band gain ranges from 42.1 dBi receive on the 1.2 m model to 48.81 dBi transmit on the 2.4 m model.

Azimuth, elevation and polarization movement are motorized. Published travel and speed ranges differ by reflector size.

AcquisitionBeacon / DVB

The 1.2–1.8 m sheets list Beacon pointing/DVB acquisition. The 2.4 m sheet lists built-in DVB-S, DVB-S2 and CW beacon functions.

Configuration Accuracy

Confirm the Final Band and Feed Before Ordering

The published model sheets use different band labels. The RF tables for all four models show Ku-band linear values, while the feature lists and option headings identify additional feeds. The exact feed, polarization, interfaces and Rx/Tx frequencies should therefore be fixed in the quotation and approved drawing.

Engineering Confirmation

State the required receive and transmit frequency ranges, polarization, satellite service, feed interface, BUC/LNB arrangement and controller functions. Where a published source contains a formatting ambiguity—such as the 1.5 m transmit insertion-loss entry shown as “05”—the intended value should be confirmed in writing rather than assumed.

System Operation

From Vehicle Integration to Satellite Acquisition

A driveaway terminal is not selected by reflector diameter alone. Roof structure, RF chain, controller logic, power, cabling and operating environment must work as one system.

STEP 01

Check the Vehicle Envelope

Confirm mounting base, roof reinforcement, payload, cable routes, stowed dimensions and operating clearance.

STEP 02

Deploy the Reflector

The controller drives azimuth, elevation and polarization from the stowed position into the operating range.

STEP 03

Initialize Direction Data

Integral sensors support pointing. The 2.4 m sheet additionally lists GPS and an electronic compass.

STEP 04

Acquire the Satellite

Published modes include Beacon/DVB on the 1.2–1.8 m models and DVB-S, DVB-S2 and CW beacon functions on the 2.4 m model.

STEP 05

Verify the RF Link

Confirm signal peak, polarization, RF interfaces, BUC/LNB operation and the project-specific acceptance criteria.

Common Configuration Questions

01Are all frequency bands available on every reflector size?
No. The published RF tables show Ku-band values for all four sizes, but additional feed references differ by model. Confirm the final band, exact frequencies and feed interfaces in the quotation and approved drawing.
02Is a driveaway antenna the same as a flyaway antenna?
No. A driveaway antenna is integrated with a vehicle and deploys from the vehicle-mounted base. A flyaway antenna is transported in cases and assembled or deployed on a ground support at the operating location.
03Does auto acquisition mean continuous satellite tracking?
Not necessarily. These data sheets describe auto acquisition and pointing functions for a deployed terminal. Continuous tracking of moving LEO or MEO satellites is a different requirement and should not be assumed from the driveaway specifications.
04Are the BUC and LNB included in the published weights?
The published total weights are stated as “without BUC.” The 2.4 m packing list also does not identify a BUC or LNB as standard packed items. Confirm the outdoor RF equipment and mounting arrangement separately.
05Which model includes a published mounting drawing?
The current 2.4 m data sheet includes a mounting-base layout and a stowed/operating-envelope drawing. Vehicle integration should use the complete drawing and a structural review rather than the summary dimensions alone.
06What should be checked before final model selection?
At minimum: exact Rx/Tx frequencies, polarization, link budget, required gain and G/T, BUC/LNB arrangement, vehicle roof dimensions and payload, power supply, acquisition method, operating environment and the required acceptance documents.

One-Year Product Warranty

Dolph Microwave warrants its products to be free from defective material and workmanship for one year from the date of delivery. Defective parts and repair work required by normal use are covered within this period. The stated warranty is exclusive and replaces other expressed or implied warranties.
